Healthy eating has always been advocated by health care providers across the world; it is something in which that individuals personally can control. Healthy eating sometimes is not taken seriously until chronic health conditions arise and unfortunately the damage may have already been done. It is never too late to change eating habits and make healthier choices; however, this may not be an option for some. In America, fast food is significantly cheaper than healthy choices at the grocery store. Recently the Hunger Task Force has tried to reduce the amount of unhealthy foods that are offered at a local food pantry by incorporating MyPlate, a healthy eating tool. Data were collected and analyzed from 20 food pantry recipients through a qualitative approach using structured interviews. Findings revealed that people being served by the food pantry do not understand MyPlate very well and there is a high lack of motivation to learn about healthy eating. The researcher made recommendations to the food pantry based on these findings. Keywords: Health, literacy, healthy, eating, food, pantry, MyPlate, Orem, nutrition
