Heart failure (HF) is one of the leading causes of death in the United States today. Although medical advancements have and continue to develop, HF continues to increase (Aggarwal, A. et al., 2013). HF is the most commonly diagnosed illness in patients aged sixty-five and older, yet the prognosis of HF remains poor (Boruah, P. et al., 2019). Mechanical circulatory support devices (MCSD) have continued to advance, leaving those with advanced HF options to prolong their life when they otherwise would be unable to. Education regarding MCSD is covered at various stages during medical school, physician assistant school, and nurse practitioner school; however, education is limited, and providers may be left with training and learning about these devices on the job. The purpose of this capstone project is to develop an educational in-service emergency department (ED) providers can utilize before being exposed to these types of specialized patients or for the experienced ED provider who would like to keep up on their education regarding these patients. Keywords: left ventricular assist device, LVAD, emergency department, emergency room, emergency room provider, ED, ER, ED provider, ER provider, educational in-service
