In the United States, Health Care Associated Infections (HAIs) cause morbidity and mortality and are associated with a considerable increase in health care costs each year. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (2020) states that at any given time HAIs affect 1 in 25 hospitalized patients. The purpose of this project is to develop an evidence-based ongoing education program to prevent HAIs through the use of a virtual training by applying principles of adult learning, using reading level and language appropriate material for the target audience, and using online educational tools available to the institution. The CNS student utilized the Nightingale Environmental Model and the Wright Competency Assessment in Health Care framework to guide this project. Anonymous questionnaires were provided to staff to assess their knowledge on HAI prevention. Gaps in knowledge were identified as there is a lack of hands-on education and skills days due to new social distancing guidelines. The questionnaire identified that staff lacked knowledge and confidence in infection prevention principles. Further education should be provided to the staff to prevent future HAI and the questionnaires can guide that education. Keywords: Health care associated infections, Clinical Nurse Specialist
