As indoor tanning has become more popular, the rates of melanoma have dramatically increased over the last couple of decades. It is evident that there is a lack of basic knowledge regarding melanoma development, and its relation to indoor tanning. By performing a search on the CINAHL database, several articles of best-evidence were obtained and reviewed that support the specific need for this project implementation. In relation to the Healthy People 2020 objectives, this project seeks to impact the overarching goal related to cancer: reduce the number of new cancer cases, as well as the illness, disability and death caused by cancer (Healthy People, 2016). Through the development and disbursement of an educational pamphlet regarding indoor tanning and Melanoma by the family nurse practitioner at annual exams to the target population of adolescents and young women between 15 and 30-years-old, Melanoma can be further prevented in order to promote disease prevention. Future implications might include bans on indoor tanning use. Keywords: indoor tanning, melanoma
