This action research report is designed to identify managers’ and team members’ perceptions on the essential roles that managers play to develop and maintain high performing teams. It further sought to identify strategies used in fostering highly effective teams. The methodology of qualitative research designed is used in this inquiry. The data for this study is gathered through the use of an on-line electronic survey that was distributed to two different sample populations. The first sample population consists of 7 participants whose primary responsibilities are managing teams and the second sample consists of 14 participants of team members who are in staff level positions across different organizations in the healthcare industry in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This inquiry includes strategies that managers are able to use to assist in the developing and maintaining high performing teams. It also identifies the manager’s roles in developing and maintaining high performing teams. This information is useful in several respects, such as the recruitment and selection of managers and possibly as criteria for determining employee development needs.
