As America’s education system continues to transform, it is imperative for the 21st century educator to find modes of reflection rooted in processes for critical analysis that affirms, improves, or reconstructs classroom practices. This capstone study aims to discover the realm of reflective practice theory in regard to teachers impacting change in their classrooms. This study explores the challenges educators face when reflecting, analyzes predetermined attitudes toward reflective practice, and the frequency of how educators reflect based on a Teacher Attitudes Survey (adapted from Rayford, 2010 & Young, 1989's Teacher Attitude Survey) taken by 30 random in-service educators. Specifically, this capstone study attempts to determine which research- based reflective models provide opportunities for educators to reflect individually and collaboratively in order to move past a surface level review of their practice to create meaningful change in their classrooms.
