The following action research project was completed over fifteen months; from September 2011 through November 2012. This report details the quasi-experimental project that includes mixed methods research (questionnaires, focus groups, observations, and attendance records). Exploring the effects of defining and implementing a mission statement and clear goals on the level of commitment and level of participation among volunteer members of non-profit organizations is the purpose of this research. The subjects of the project include 6 volunteer members of an FFA Alumni Chapter (non-profit organization) that is located in southeastern Wisconsin. The participants include 4 females and 2 males that range in age from mid-20’s to mid-60’s. The documented findings show that the majority of the research participants’ level of commitment and participation to the Chapter and its activities was at a moderate to high level prior to and after the implementation of a Chapter mission statement and organizational goals. The mission statement and organizational goals as interventions also noticeably increased the Chapter’s overall efficiency, level of organization, and created a clearer focus for the members.
